Viewfinder...

"He must increase, but I must decrease."
-John 3:30

We are here to be a window into Who God is, a lens that people can look through and see Jesus.

I find myself having to continually refocus the 'camera' on Christ, fighting that tenacious tendency toward self promotion, that plebeian posture that says, Look at ME!

We are here to personify Jesus, to be living portraits of our Lord.  How often do I detract from Deity, demanding the foreground, distracting the viewer, valuing ephemeral ego gratification over engendering a meaningful encounter with Christ?

The ego-chafing correction comes:

People do not need me; People need the Lord.

"It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.  The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life...He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him."
- John 6:63, 7:18

Yea, I don't always do well with this, especially last night when having a huge argument with unreasonable ex-husband and his ridiculous rules that upset my daughter. But, today is a new day - that's how I always look at it. That's the only way I can look at it to make it through this thing called life.

Thanks for the lovely inspiration.

Thanks for another great reminder. Love it.

And I'm still lovin' your previous post. Been revisiting it daily now for a few days. Fuzzy Math, God's economy....brilliant. Brilliantly simple.

Hey Linda...I'm really sorry to hear about that upset last night : ( That is such tough stuff to deal with, especially with a child in the balance...my husband has two kids that live with their mom and I know how gut-wrenching the drama can be, especially when you feel little or compromised control in the situation.

The thing that brings soothes me and brings me back to center when things come to a boil is reading Isaiah 40 and Psalm 37...Both AWESOME reminders of Who's really in control...God is a good Father who cares even more about Sarah than you do...He can be trusted...

peace, Girley...

HOWDY! I have to refocus my camera ALL DAY! :)And sometimes I forget and get a series of really fuzzy images.

Have you ever heard Rita Springer's music? Have I already asked you that? I was listening to it today and thought of your blog and your words... you might like her! Her lyrics are so powerful. Her voice is so powerful, too.

Hello Hindsfeet... Are you Sara Groves? Hehe, sorry for asking but I just heard your audio clip and the songs are beautiful. You have been such a big encouragement to me. Thank you for your comments. Thank you for looking into my window. I pray you have seen God.

Isn't that the hardest thing? To step aside and die to self?

Yes, I find myself struggling with this---it's so easy to claim the accolades when I do something for someone--when my original intention was to be the hands and heart of Christ. I have to watch myself quite closely or it will seem as if I was the one who did the good deed---when it's really Christ's love for that person that I want to shine through. I didn't know this happened to others also... ;)
